Hi.. Being pretty new to all this large format printing I've got a few questions...

In the menu on the printer, when loading a new roll your given options of paper choices..

Question is... Is there a guide to what you should select?
I seem to be struggling with the colours and wonder if I'm selecting the wrong paper...

The canvas option is straight forward, but when your using Satin paper and lustre it does not give you an option... Any advice would be much appreciated... x

Hi Sophie,
So in a nutshell, the different media settings that are loaded into your machine determine how the printer handles that particular paper.  For example:

  • Colour saturation
  • White point compensation
  • Printhead height (to avoid head strikes)
  • Vacuum strength (to avoid paper curl on the platen)
Typically, if you are using a satin or lustre paper then it is recommended that you use a satin or semi-gloss setting on the printer.
On the CD that came with your printer, you should find a paper reference guide that will help you choose the right paper setting for that particular media.
Canon imagePROGRAF machines are known for being really rather colour accurate, straight out of the box.  So if you are experiencing colour issues, then it may be that your printer isn't quite performing correctly and may need a head clean. You can check this at any stage by performing a head clean as described in the printer manual.
If the printer is performing correctly then you may find that your monitor/screen is displaying colours incorrectly, in which case you are trying to 'hit a moving target' so to speak.
If in doubt at all, do feel free to give us a call and speak to a friendly member of our team.
Kind regards,
The Total Imaging Support Team.
